It shouldn’t come as a shock that the majority of us could stand to improve our health, especially after CNA training. Why? This fast-paced job keeps us on our toes, but doesn’t allow us much time to think about ourselves. The majority of our focus is on our patients, not on ourselves, and that can lead to us failing to eat proper meals, forgetting to drink the proper amount of water, or being so tired after we get home that we don’t take time to think about our health or what our bodies need at all.
After CNA training, your health is important, and there are a few simple steps you can take to keep on track and ensure that even when your days at the hospital are busy, you’re able to take the time to give your body what it needs.
Simple Ways to Stay Healthy After CNA Training
- Walk to Work- Do you live close to work? If so, walking or even biking to work once a week can help you keep off extra pounds, allow you to breathe in fresh air, and keep your body in shape. It may take an extra 15 minutes out of your day, but the end results are well worth it. If you’re not sure you want to walk to and from work by yourself, recruit some of your co-workers to support you. Have everyone drive to your house and walk with you. This will help keep you on track and ensure your safety after CNA training.
- Be Accountable With Each Other- Do you get so busy after CNA training that you forget to take breaks or stop to grab a bottle of water? Your fellow CNAs are probably doing the exact same thing. Get together and create an accountability program. Assign one person each day as the ‘water guru.’ Have them bring around bottles of water every hour or two hours and remind you to stop to drink as much as possible. This will not only keep your stomach from rumbling while you’re caring for patients, but it will also keep you hydrated and energized for the work to come.
- Go to War- Pedometer wars are exciting and fun, and since you’re on your feet a lot after CNA training, it’s the perfect way for you and your co-workers to have fun while getting fit. Create challenges and healthy prizes to the winner who takes the most steps each day. With this healthy body challenge, you’ll find it difficult to even want to sit down.
- Hold Potlucks- What do you eat for lunch after CNA training? If you’re getting your lunch from the vending machine, you’re most likely going to put on a few extra pounds. To combat this, brown bag your lunch each day, and hold a healthy potluck once a week with your co-workers. Everyone can bring in their favorite healthy dish. If you want, you can even make the potluck a contest and vote on the best recipe.
