As a CNA, boosting your self-confidence can help you get rid of those unpleasant thoughts and become a better caregiver after CNA training.

Becoming more confident in yourself isn’t always easy. However, there are a few simple steps you can begin using today.

  1. Boost Your CNA Training Skills. Whether you attend continued education courses, read information online, or attend hands-on workshops in your area, boosting your CNA training skills will allow you to become more confident in every task you take on after CNA training.
  2. Be Prepared. In life, and in work, being prepared is half the battle. Understand what you are going to need before you enter a patient’s room after CNA training. If it helps, create a checklist you can carry with you while you are on the job.
  3. Communicate Effectively. Communication, for CNAs, can be a very powerful tool. Make sure you speak clearly, listen, and pay attention to the non verbal cues you are sending to patients, nurses, physicians, and other CNAs. Ask questions, and if you don’t know something, don’t be afraid to admit it.
  4. Forget Approval and Gratitude. If you have learned anything from working as a CNA after CNA training, it’s that this job is tough. Nine times out of ten, you won’t even be acknowledged, let allow thanked for your hard work. And that’s okay, because the work of a CNA isn’t about approval or gratitude. It’s about caring for those who cannot care for themselves.

Whether you are scared to perform a certain task in the workplace or simply scared to get rid of the spider sitting in the bathtub at home, take a chance and actually try to do it anyway. You will feel much more confident in yourself once you accomplish your goal, even if it scared you to try.
  9. Contribute to Change. So many CNAs love the patients they care for and the job they do, but they often give it all up because they don’t like the environment they work in. If this is the case, don’t run away from your problems. Instead, take steps to help contribute to change in your facility. The words you say have an impact, so use them.
