If you’re looking for the convenience of an online CNA training program, it won’t be hard to find them. Just a quick Google search will produce hundreds of  results, which can make it a bit challenging to sift through and determine which is right for you. There, of course, is always the fear that you’ll get hooked up with that one online scam that’s just out to take your money.

  • Rule of thumb to avoid being taken advantage of is, of course, to use a school that’s been around for a while. Another great way to check into an online  CNA training program is to search the forums using keywords such as online CNA training scams or other phrases which will lead you to the complaints and unfortunate experiences of others. Once you’re certain the CNA training course you’re about to sign up with is legitimate, accredited with your state, and has minimal complaints, keep the following tips in mind.

Considerations Before Signing Up for an Online CNA Training Program

Looking for the right school isn’t just about the convenience of online CNA training programs. A lot of students choose this option because it seems easier, especially for those with a busy schedule, –but let’s take a closer look:

  • Online CNA training mainly focuses on the written portion of your exam. If your state requires clinical hands-on experience, you need to be sure that the online course you sign up for has a partnership or relationship with a clinic or medical facility in your area. You may be required to finish the clinical portion of your CNA training before you can sit for your exam.
  • Online CNA training takes a great amount of self discipline and self-scheduling. It’s a lot easier to show up at a class (on location) and allow the instructor to guide you through each session, than to make the time necessary to sit through an online course. Remember, the pull to continue to put it off, and put it off, can turn into a few hundred dollars (or even a thousand) of wasted money on your part. If you already know you have a problem with procrastination, it’s probably not wise to sign up for online CNA training.
  • Online CNA training may provide forums and email capabilities for students, but there won’t be a live instructor who is there to answer your questions. Some online CNA training programs even have chat capabilities right on the website, but it still may not be an exact fit for you.

If it sounds like we’re trying to discourage you from enrolling in online CNA training, we certainly aren’t. But we do want you to take a good look at your personality, your study habits, your reading comprehension, and your self-discipline to determine whether online CNA training is something you think you could handle.
