Dealing with a illness like PCOS after CNA training can be difficult for CNAs. After your training ends, you’ll probably work long hours, lack regular sleep, and sometimes you won’t exactly feel like eating the healthiest of meals (who thinks a kale salad sounds good at seven o’clock in the morning?)

When you have PCOS, it can be difficult for you to live the healthy life you need to after CNA training. You may become so caught up with your everyday routine of helping your patients that you forget to take a step back and help yourself. If you have PCOS, though, there are some steps you can take to help manage it, even when dealing with a busy (and sometimes crazy) life after CNA training.

Know You’re not Alone- One of the most important things you can remember is that you’re not alone. Many other CNAs are just like you, and they struggle on a daily basis to manage the symptoms of this disorder, like weight gain, unwanted hair growth, acne, etc. If you’re going to cope with it, you first need to know that others out there are going through the same thing you are, and they’ve found a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle despite it.

Develop an Exercise Regimen- It’s easy to say, “Tomorrow, I’m going to start exercising.” But when was the last time you actually stuck to that promise? If you’re going to control your PCOS after CNA training, you have to make an exercise regimen, and then stick to it. This can be hard, of course, with the various schedules you have to work each week. Find exercises you can do any time to avoid this problem. Take the stairs instead of using the elevator. Park farther away from the grocery store entrance so you have to walk. Every bit of effort will pay off.

Choose a Healthy Diet- Instead of consisting on a diet of vending machine food and fast food, start planning your meals so they can help you remain healthy. Pack lunches full of proteins, veggies, and fruits. Fix your post-shift meal before you leave the house so you’re not tempted to stop and grab a cheeseburger on the way home.

Talk to Your Doctor- Controlling this disorder sometimes requires more than just diet and exercise. If you’re having difficulty controlling it after CNA training, talk to your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe you medicine that can help make it easier to cope.

Remain Positive- While it may be hard to live with PCOS, especially when you have a hectic life of a nursing assistant after CNA training, don’t let negative thoughts consume you. With a little effort, you can be in control of this disorder, instead of the disorder controlling you. Remember to stay as active as possible and choose healthier choices for meals so you can manage the symptoms.
