It’s been exactly two weeks since you made those New Year’s resolutions, and for many of you, those two weeks were about all you could stand of your new lifestyle. Maybe you decided to pursue continued CNA training, only to find out you couldn’t afford it. Perhaps you decided to lose weight, only to find that you detest the very thought of carrot sticks being included in your diet. Whatever the problem is, you may feel as if you have fallen back into your old ways already, and it’s understandable.

Many individuals have a difficult time juggling lifestyle changes after CNA training. Your life is hectic with long shifts, taking care of your family, and living your life. Some days you can’t believe you’ve actually had the time to eat or made it to work five minutes early. After CNA training, though, you can make those New Year’s resolutions a reality, even with your busy, non-stop schedule. You just have to be SMART about it.

How to Get SMART After CNA Training

SMART is an acronym that encompasses five excellent tips you can use after CNA training to not only ensure your New Year’s resolutions are met, but any other goal you have in your life as well.

  • S- Be Specific. Instead of saying, “I want to go on a diet,” say, “I’m going to cut down on my carbs, eat more protein and vegetables each week, and lose 10 pounds by July.” If you are more specific about what you want from your goals, and give yourself detailed instructions to follow after CNA training, you are more likely to stick with your plan and achieve better results.
  • M- Measure it. Just like being specific, providing yourself with a measurement will help you achieve your goals. For instance, you could decide that this year, you are going to make an effort to get out more and have fun with your friends. To make this measurable, give yourself a time table for the goal. You could decide to meet your friends once a week, once every two weeks, or even once a month for a fun night out away from work and thoughts of CNA training.
  • A- Make sure it’s Attainable. Before you jump into a goal, make sure it’s actually an attainable one. It’s fine to shoot for the moon in your life and career, but you don’t want to go overboard. There’s a slim chance you are going to win the lottery this year or find the cure for cancer. That will take a lot of luck and a little more education than just CNA training.
  • R- Stay Relevant. Is the goal you have decided to reach for after CNA training actually relevant to your life? Is it something you really want? Make sure it is before you put the effort in.
  • T- Give it your complete and Total attention. Don’t let your goal disappear into the background. If you want to pursue continued CNA training, do it! Don’t let the price or time table get in the way.
