How to Become a Nurse in Flight/Transport
If you want to learn to become a nurse with a transport and flight specialty, you’ll first need to begin as all other nurses do: with an associate or bachelor of science in nursing. If you aren’t sure this is the first step you want to take, you can also take CNA training and work as a health care assistant while you become more familiar with the world of medicine. Once you’ve earned your nursing degree, you must take the NCLEX-RN, or National Council Licensure Examination for registered nurses. By taking this test, you prove exactly what you have learned and show the state licensing board you are ready to take on the responsibility of becoming a nurse.
Passing the NCLEX-RN provides you with your RN credentials. You’ll then need to secure a job in a critical care setting. Work in this field for three to five years. While you do so, take the time to earn your Emergency Medical Technician basic or paramedic certification. It is required of some flight nurse programs.
After working in critical care for at least three years and earning this certification, you can sit for the Flight Registered Nurse test. Passing this test makes you a certified flight registered nurse, or CFRN.
