Red Cross CNA Class
Red Cross CNA class training provides CNA certification via the American Red Cross. It is available in many states, and follows a nationally-recognized Certified Nursing Assistant curriculum. Course hours will vary according to the state and as such clinical requirements may be longer or shorter in a particular state. The Red Cross CNA class uses the requirements of each state.
For the Nurse Assistant Training course participant, successful course completion requires full participation in classroom and skill sessions, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations. Due to the nature of the skills in this program, participants may be participating in strenuous activities. If you have a medical condition or disability that may prevent you from taking part in a skill session, or if you have any questions about your ability to participate fully in this course, discuss them with your health-care provider and the appropriate person at the Red Cross chapter before you start your course.
The examination consists of two parts, the Skills Test and the Written Test. The entire exam can be completed in one day and takes approximately 5 1/2 hours. The participant must successfully pass the Skills Test before taking the Written Test. The applicant is notified of the test results on the same day, and upon passing will receive the State Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification shortly thereafter.
The following are minimum requirements for all Red Cross C.N.A. participants:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Cannot have any felony convictions within the last 7 years
- Must be free of all communicable diseases
- Cannot be pregnant
- *Only in the event that your TB screening and/or background check does not clear, you will be able to receive a refund of your payment less the $35 screening fee. Once you have registered, the $35 screening fee is non-refundable
While enrolled in the program, all participants must:
- Arrive on time.
- Attend all classes, only 6 missed hours permitted, all missed hours must be made up.
- Pass final test with score of 80% or higher.
Please note that you will be responsible for transportation to both the classroom and clinical site.
Wear comfortable clothing. (Some classes involve kneeling and lying on the floor.)
Returning C.N.A. testing only: Payment in full is due 1 week prior to the date of the state exam. We are sorry, but refunds are not available. Fee for testing only is $100.
The Red Cross CNA class is ideal because it helps encourage nursing assistants to become nurses and it helps provide more time for nurses to focus on their primary responsibilities.

I am very interested in taking this course. I have had my CNA certificate for four years, but it expired in May of this year and I am only missing the exemption date by two months…now I have to re-take everything. Not only am I kicking myself, but I am trying to do it as cheaply as possible. Is there a scholarship or grant with this program? Could you please email me all of the information? I tried looking it up on the Red Cross website, and they had no information about it. I live in the Grand Rapids, MI area if that helps with what kind of information you pass my way. The courses we offer here at Sunshine Career Institute are as follows: Home Health Aide (HHA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Phlebotomy Technician, Electrocardiograph Aide (EKG), Security 24hr, 16hr, G license, and concealed weapons. Sunshine Career Institute Security Officer Course A total of 40-hours of instruction for Class “D” license training are required by the State of Florida. However, the law permits this training to be divided into 24-hours of initial training and 16-hours of follow-up instruction. Application must be at least 18 years of age having no disqualifying criminal history, and be legally allowed to work in the United States. At the Sunshine Career Institute, we offer the initial 24-hours for $75.00, 16- hour for $65.00 or total 40- hour for $140.00 of Class “D” training over a period of two days of classroom instruction after which an exam is given. Passing student will receive a certificate of proof to provide to the state when they apply for D License. Training includes all information required by the State of Florida for initial license applicants, including: Florida State Statutes Section 493 • Legal Issues and Liabilities • Basic First Aid • Fire Suppression • Emergency Procedures • Crime & Accident Prevention • other required topics. For reapplying applicants, includes all information required by the State of Florida for officer continuation training including the new mandated terrorism awareness training. In addition to lesson instruction, at Sunshine Career Institute Inc, we ensure that every student’s license application is complete and filled out properly, applications are notarized, and free finger print card and passport photo are provided for our students. Students who have completed the initial 24 hour program must return within six months to complete the 16-hour continuation training to retain their license at a cost of $65.00. Students passing the final 16 hour exam will be given proof of completion to provide to the State of Florida as required to maintain their Class “D” license. NOTE: Those with an expired license who completed their initial 24 hour course after October 1994, but never did there 16 hours course, will have there licensed suspended. Sunshine Career Institute Armed Security Officer Course Class “G” licensed armed security officers are required to complete 28-hours of classroom and range instruction in accordance with Florida Chapter 493, under the direction of a Class “K” licensed instructor. Course covers all information required by the State of Florida for Class “G” license applicants, including: Florida Statues 493, 775, and 790 • Firearms Safety & Mechanics • Civil Liability & Use of Force Issues • Handgun Marksmanship • Care and Maintenance of Firearms • Other required topics Students that pass the final exam and range qualification will be given proof of completion to provide to the State when they apply for the Class “G” license.
